Focused ABA Therapy
Autism is difficult to detect in children because there is no medical test, like a blood test, to diagnose the disorder. Instead, doctors diagnose autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by looking at the child’s developmental history, observing the children’s behavior, and listening to the parents’ concerns.
Ascend Autism is dedicated to elavating the outcomes of children diagnosed with autism. Not being aware of the signs can cost time to address an actual diagnosis and begin addressing life with autism. Specific treatment is best at certain ages.
Targeted intervention programs have significantly improved participants’ social communication skills. As with programs to address any disorder, it is always best to implement an autism spectrum disorder treatment program as soon as possible.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) studies human behavior to understand and improve behavioral outcomes. There is no specific recommendation for ABA therapy duration, as that is determined by individual need. Ascend Autism uses ABA as the foundation of its treatment programs as it has been accepted as the most effective form of intervention for all ages.
Targeted ABA therapy is the next logical step in treatment for children aging out of early childhood intervention or “Birth to Three” programs.
Compared to the Early Intervention Program, children in the targeted intervention program generally receive fewer therapy hours per week, typically ten to twenty hours per week. They focus more on functional activities, particularly communication and social interactions. Targeted intervention programs have improved social, language, and cognitive skills.
During this program, everyone learns to interact in socially meaningful ways, which include:
The interventions are designed to encourage making frequent and deliberate efforts by the children to engage with others and have shown gains in joint attention, imitation, social engagement, and symbolic and functional play. The targeted intervention focuses on outcomes of ASD-specific characteristics.
There is no one cause of autism. Research suggests that autism develops from genetic, non-genetic, or environmental influences. Generally, risk factors can include:
The key is to detect signs of ASD as close to birth as possible so that intervention methods can begin. Signs of ASD that generally do not appear in other children can include:

Our office will contact your insurance company to verify benefits and we will send you an intake packet for your child.
Once your insurance benefits have been verified, we will arrange an assessment with one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA). The BCBA will use these assessments to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for your child.
Once a plan is ready, the BCBA will schedule a meeting with you to review the treatment plan and make any final adjustments before the first therapy session.
After the assessment, the BCBA will submit a service request to the insurance company to recommend the child’s specific hours or therapy. It generally takes about two weeks to process this request.
Once your treatment plan is finalized, we will contact you to coordinate a start date. Therapy begins!
The conversation starts with you. We listen and will help you think things through, adding an unmatched level of expertise and caring guidance so you can help your child find their way. Speak with us today.
